How to Choose a Home Tutor in Jaipur: A Parent's Checklist
A good tutor can change how your child feels about a subject. A poor match wastes money and time. Use this checklist before you decide.
1. Be clear about the goal
Write down what you need: weak in one subject, board exam preparation, or competitive exam foundation. The goal decides what kind of tutor you need.
2. Check subject and board knowledge
Ask which classes and boards (CBSE, RBSE, ICSE) the tutor has taught. For Class 11–12, ask specifically about the stream: PCM, PCB or Commerce.
3. Always take a demo class
Sit nearby during the first class. Watch whether the tutor explains the concept, asks the child questions, and gives practice work. A child who understands one topic after the demo is a good sign.
4. Verify who is coming to your home
Ask for the tutor's name, photo and a valid ID. Keep their phone number. Parents of younger children and girls may prefer a female tutor, which is a reasonable request.
5. Agree on schedule and fees in writing
- Days and timing per week
- Monthly fee and what it includes
- Policy for missed or rescheduled classes
- How and when you will receive progress feedback
6. Warning signs
- Asking for a large advance before any class
- Guaranteeing marks or ranks
- Frequent cancellations or late arrivals
- Only giving answers instead of teaching the method
7. Review after the first month
Compare test scores, homework quality and your child's confidence. If nothing improves, talk to the tutor first and then consider a change.
